MSDH reports 1,348 new COVID-19 cases, 36 additional deaths

Today’s report from the Mississippi State Department of Health shows a significant uptick in new COVID-19 cases. 

The report of 1,348 new cases — the first day above 1,000 new cases since last Wednesday — brings the state’s total up to 74,555. With the confirmation of *36 additional deaths, 2,163 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus. 

MSDH Note: 12 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between July 22 and August 14, identified from death certificate reports.

*MSDH’s tweet says 34 deaths while their website lists 36. 

After consecutive days in decline, overall hospitalizations did see a slight increase in the latest hospital data (from Tuesday’s report).

As of Monday, the MSDH is able to estimate that 56,577 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
