MSDH reports 1,547 new COVID-19 cases, 34 additional deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,547 new cases of COVID-19. 

Today’s report brings Mississippi’s total number of cases up to 47,071. With the confirmation of 34 additional deaths, 1,423 Mississippians have passed away from the virus. 

*MSDH Note: 6 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between June 21 and July 8, identified from death certificate reports.

Hospitalizations did remain steady in today’s report, but the hospital system continues to be stressed with rising case numbers. 

Another cause for concern continues to be a rise in outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities, which is now sitting at 161. 

Mississippi’s 18-29 population continues to see a surge in positive cases, with the number now surpassing 10,000.
