The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is gearing up for the 75th edition of the Choctaw Indian Fair on July 8-12, recently announcing the music lineup and more information.
Taking place on the Choctaw Indian Reservation in east Mississippi, fairgoers will “experience the magnificent journey of our people through historical and cultural displays, social dancing, tribal arts & crafts, Choctaw stickball, as well as the Choctaw Indian Princess Pageant and traditional Choctaw food,” according to the fair’s website.
This year’s live entertainment lineup features Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Tatanka Means, Indigenous, Chapel Hart, Chris Young, and Flo Rida.
On Tuesday, July 8, fair stage activities officially kick off at 3 p.m. with opening ceremonies featuring Chief Cyrus Ben and Choctaw Indian Princess Leilani Elyse Allen. Performances from social and tribal dancers will help ring in the new fair before Tasha Cobbs Leonard takes the main stage. Leonard is a gospel musician and songwriter best known for “Break Every Chain” and “You Know My Name.”
Fair activities will continue on Wednesday, July 9, before two headliners perform on Thursday, July 10. Tatanka Means is a comedian and actor known for on-screen roles in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “The Son.” His standup comedy routines often tie back to his Native heritage. Indigenous is a blues rock band that has won several Native American Music Awards and seen songs and albums make their way up Billboard charts.
Friday, July 11, will be another two-act day with Chapel Hart and Chris Young. Poplarville-based country music trio Chapel Hart is made up of Danica Hart, Devynn Hart, and Trea Swindle. They made it big through a 2022 run on “America’s Got Talent” and have since experienced a meteoric rise to becoming some of the genre’s young stars.
Young, already a star in his own right, is a Grammy-nominated country artist with hits such as “I’m Comin’ Over,” “Famous Friends,” “Wild Ones,” and “Low,” the last of which was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 10 consecutive weeks in 2007.
