News Mississippi Roundup – Child drowning, Conviction for murder of grandparents, & ATV Fatalities

*The body of a 9-year-old child has been found in a pond in Simpson County.  The child’s body was recovered by Wildlife officials and Simpson County authorities. The sheriff’s office says the preliminary cause of death appears to be drowning. The body has been taken to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

*An Ocean Springs man has been sentenced for the 2015 murder of his grandparents.  26-year-old Zachary Stanford received two life sentences for the 2015 murders of Robert and Peggy Faries in Rankin County. The day after the murders, Stanford was stopped in Magee where officers discovered bloody clothing, a knife and a .22 caliber firearm in the vehicle. Stanford was questioned by Rankin County deputies where he ultimately confessed.

*An ATV accident left a father and son dead in Chicksaw County.  Reports state that 41-year-old Cletus Pannell and his 7-year-old son Adian were riding an ATV around 7 p.m. when the two lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the tree. While the child died at the scene, Cletus was taken to a local hospital where he would later pass away.
