The stretch of land around the Holly Springs airport has a history of aviation incidents. In July 2000, a Cessna 150 crashed south of the airport, killing two people, and in June 2011, a Cessna 182 experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff, but the pilot deployed a ballistic parachute and survived with minor injuries.
