Hattiesburg Police were contacted Monday regarding the welfare of a newborn.
Shortly after receiving the information, 19-year-old Quentasha Portis was taken into custody at a Hattiesburg residence.
Portis is charged with one count of felony child abuse-causing serious bodily harm intentionally, of a three-week-old. The newborn, as well as a two-year-old, were turned over to other family members with the help of Child Protective Services
Portis is being held in the Forrest County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
