A runoff election is being held in Eupora for the position of mayor.

Blake McMullan, who resigned in September after a disagreement with the board of alderman over the city’s police chief, is trying to get his position back. He is being challenged by Lamar Dumas, another former mayor.

Dumas was elected as the city’s first Black mayor in 2017 before McMullan defeated him in 2021 by five votes.

During the Nov. 7 general election, Dumas hauled in 239 votes while McMullan came just behind with 189 votes. With no candidate surpassing the 50 percent mark, a runoff was set for Dec. 5.

The polls are open until 7 p.m.
