The South Pike School District is mourning the loss of one of its students who passed away shortly after football practice.
According to the Pike County coroner, 13-year-old Tra’Derric M. Hall was picked up from football practice on Thursday afternoon by his mother. Just before 5 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the family’s home when Hall was found unresponsive. He was later pronounced deceased.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our 8th grade students,” a statement from the school district reads. “During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his bright spirit.”
District officials said counselors are available for students, faculty, and staff impacted by Hall’s death to reach out to in the coming days.
“We understand this loss will raise many emotions for our students, staff, and families, and we want to ensure everyone has access to the support they need,” the statement continued. “…Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need assistance, and know that we are here for each other as we navigate through this challenging moment together.”
