Seago, who performed his first robotic procedure in 2005, was one of the earliest adopters of the da Vinci robotic system in the state. He was also the first GYN oncologist or GYN surgeon in Mississippi to use the technology and remains among the top 1% nationwide for lifetime procedure volume in his field.
The da Vinci surgical system is a robotic-assisted platform used by surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures with greater precision, flexibility, and control than traditional techniques.
“Reaching the milestone of 3,000 robotic surgeries is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the advancements in medical technology and the dedication of our entire surgical team,” Seago said. “Each procedure represents our commitment to providing the highest level of care and the best possible outcomes for our patients. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in robotic surgery.”
St. Dominic Health Market President Jeremy Tinnerello commended Seago for his leadership and dedication.
“Dr. Seago’s dedication to innovation and patient care has set a new standard for surgical excellence in Mississippi and beyond,” Tinnerello said. “We are deeply grateful for Dr. Seago’s leadership, his commitment to advancing minimally invasive techniques, and the positive impact he has had on our patients and community. Thank you, Dr. Seago, for your unwavering pursuit of excellence and for inspiring your colleagues every day.”
Over the past two decades, Seago has helped mentor dozens of robotic surgeons across Mississippi, contributing to the statewide rise in the minimally invasive procedures. In 2005, only 71 da Vinci surgeries were performed in the state of Mississippi. By 2024, the number had grown to 19,126, including more than 5,500 gynecologic procedures.
St. Dominic Health continues to expand its robotic surgery program, now equipped with three operating suites featuring the latest da Vinci 5 systems. Hospital officials said the technology allows for smaller incisions, less recovery time, and improves outcomes for patients.
“These achievements not only reflect Dr. Seago’s personal dedication and leadership but also highlight the broader commitment of St. Dominic Health to advancing patient care through innovation and collaboration,” the hospital said in a statement.
