Mississippi’s first high school girls’ flag football championship belongs to St. Martin High School after the Yellow Jackets defeated George County, 18-0, in the state championship game on Saturday.
The win capped off the inaugural flag football season in Mississippi, which joined 13 other states to sanction the sport earlier this year. St. Martin was led by starting quarterback Jalyn Nguyen and a dominant defense in the dominant, shutout victory.

St. Martin and runner-up George County were joined by 10 other high schools participating in the pilot season: Brandon, East Central, McComb, Meridian, Oak Grove, Perry Central, Picayune, Richland, South Pike, and Vancleave.
The launch of girls’ flag football in Mississippi came through a partnership with the New Orleans Saints, as the NFL franchise is working to expand access and create new opportunities for female student-athletes.
