The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is working to help mothers deliver healthy babies in a safe manner.
According to the MSDH, the Magnolia State had the highest rate of stillborn infants in the nation as of 2021 — losing 355 unborn babies that year. Now the department is looking to help expecting mothers take preventative measures and have safe deliveries.
Pregnant women are encouraged by MSDH officials to download the free “Count the Kicks” application. The app is classified as a simple way to monitor a baby’s movements while in the womb.
Expecting parents are able to track how long it takes their baby to get to 10 movements, monitor changes over time, and are reminded to keep up with their baby’s kicks throughout the day — especially in the third trimester.
This gives parents a better read on their baby’s well-being in the womb and will notify parents when it might be necessary to go to the hospital for the baby to receive emergency care.
