Suspect charged in stabbing death of a Gulfport man

A Gulfport man is being charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of James Andrew Higgins.  Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of 25th Street in reference to a welfare check Sunday, November 7th.  59-year-old James Higgins was found dead, and appeared to be the victim of a homicide.

Investigators say Higgins and Phillip Latrell Collins had gotten into an argument that led to a physical confrontation, where Collins stabbed Higgins multiple times and then fled.

Collins is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility without bond.

Anyone with further information on the case is being asked to contact Gulfport Police at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
