Two Madison County Deputies were shot on Thursday morning in Canton.
According to the MBI, deputies responded to a hostage/kidnapping situation on Lelia Drive in Madison on Thursday morning. The suspect then got into a car and led police on a high-speed chase. After stop sticks were deployed, the suspect crashed on Highway 16 in Canton and began to open fire on the deputies.
During the gunfire, two unnamed officers were shot. The suspect was also shot during the exchange. One of the officers was airlifted to UMMC, and during a press conference, doctors said that the officer is in critical condition and will require additional surgeries. The condition of the second officer or the suspect was not provided.
Following the events of this morning, Governor Bryant was among many Mississippians sending their thoughts and prayers to the officers.

The MBI and local law enforcement are continuing to investigate the shooting.
