As retail giant Walmart has spent hundreds of millions to remodel some Mississippi locations over the past five years, more stores are set to receive a facelift this year.
Walmart announced Thursday plans to remodel 19 stores in 2026 as “part of ongoing efforts to modernize the in-store and digital shopping experience.” The announcement comes as the Arkansas-based retailer has invested $379.4 million in its neighboring state since 2021.
“Walmart has been part of the communities across Mississippi for generations,” said Nick Berkeley, the senior vice president of Walmart U.S.’s Southeast Business Unit. “By modernizing our stores, we’re making shopping easier, whether customers are walking the aisles, picking up an order on the go, or having essentials delivered when life gets busy. We’re proud of our legacy here and look forward to helping families save time and live better every day.”
What will the remodels include?
The Walmart stores selected for remodeling in Mississippi will see upgrades to layouts, technology, and services to offer a faster, more convenient shopping experience, the retailer said.
The retailer added that renovations will feature updated pharmacies and vision centers, interactive displays making it easier to picture how products will look inside customers’ homes, and the addition of “elevated brands” such as De’Longhi, Oura, Jessica Simpson, and Lemme.
Remodels will open the way for expanded services that include free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ members and a store-based app that helps customers navigate the aisles and book services through the auto department.
Another goal of the upgrades is for those who order their groceries to be able to have them delivered “in as little as an hour for most customers.”

Part of a national effort
Walmart’s incoming remodels in Mississippi are part of a national effort that will see 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets upgraded in 2026. The retailer said the remodels go further than the final product.
“Every new store or remodel brings real benefits to the community – from construction jobs to long-term careers in retail, pharmacy, and store leadership,” the announcement noted.
In each state Walmart is planning remodels, it is also planning a complimentary charitable effort. In Mississippi, the retailer plans to build on the $20 million donated to local nonprofits over the past year and help address food insecurity in local communities.
