The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be closing one disaster recovery center as survivors of the mid-March tornado surge begin to receive assistance.
According to a press release, the disaster recovery center located at the Taylorsville Fire Station in Smith County will close after the end of business on Saturday, June 14. The following centers will remain open until needed:
- Covington County: Bobby Mooney Building at 1613 South Fir Avenue, Collins, MS 39428
- Grenada County: Emmanuel Baptist Church at 4661 Commerce St., Grenada, MS 38901
- Issaquena County: Mayersville Multipurpose Building at 132 Court St., Mayersville, MS 39113
- Itawamba County: Mantachie Community Center at 265 Tishtontee Dr., Mantachie, MS 38855
- Jefferson Davis County: Granby VFP at 957 East Stephens Rd., Prentiss, MS 39474
- Leflore County: Leflore County EMA Office at 701 US 82, Greenwood, MS 38930
- Marion County: Morgantown VFD at 1464 Highway 587, Morgantown, MS 39483
- Pike County: Silver Creek Baptist Church at 8017 Silver Dr., McComb, MS 39648
- Walthall County: Walthall EOC at 908 Amory Dr., Tylertown, MS 39667
The release also noted that the disaster recovery center in Issaquena County will be closed on Saturday, June 14, but resume normal operations on Monday, June 16. Hours for the nine centers still open are 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays.
Residents in the approved counties who sustained losses during the mid-March storms can also apply for FEMA assistance online or by calling 1-800-621-3362. Those who are hearing or speech impaired should call 1-800-462-7585. The disaster number is: DR-4874.
So far, more than 2,421 valid registrations have been filed with over $6 million distributed to survivors after 18 tornadoes tore through the state on March 14-15.
