The Hinds County Circuit Courthouse and Hinds County Circuit Clerk’s Office have reopened following what officials are calling the threat of a suspicious device.
Sheriff Tyree Jones announced a “potential hazardous device threat” just after 11 a.m. on Monday. While details remain sparse, Jones said that normal operations have resumed within the government complex in Jackson. Jones added that federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to assist in the incident.
“The source of the threat is under investigation,” Jones wrote on X.
This is not the first time suspicious activity has taken place within government buildings in Hinds County this year. Back in February, the circuit and chancery courthouses were temporarily closed after someone had penned unspecified notes at the doors of the facilities and vandalized them with spray paint. No arrests were announced in that case, but police deemed the courthouses safe to reopen.
