The federal government has denied Mississippi’s request for disaster relief following Tropical Storm Cristobal, the system that made landfall In Louisiana back in June.
While the storm left a total of $5,677,515 worth of damage along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Federal Emergency Management Agency stated that the impact from the storm was “not at the severity and magnitude that warrants a major disaster declaration.”
A request from Governor Tate Reeves sought public assistance for Hancock, Harrison and Jackson Counties as preliminary damage reports indicate those three counties sustained damage to 23 homes and 30 businesses, 23 roads and 13 public buildings.
MEMA now awaits the approval of a request made following the recent impact of Hurricane Zeta — a storm that left more than 32,000 homes damaged in Mississippi.
