The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 634 new cases of COVID-19.

Today’s report brings Mississippi’s total number of cases up to 83,584. With the confirmation of 20 additional deaths, 2,493 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

Hospitalizations did see a slight uptick in the latest data from the MSDH, but they have dropped significantly in recent weeks.

Monday, Governor Tate Reeves explained that the state’s mitigation efforts are making a difference and urged everyone to exercise caution over the upcoming holiday weekend after seeing spikes following Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

With that in mind, the governor announced the extension of the statewide mask mandate for an additional two weeks.

As of Monday, the MSDH is able to estimate that 67,918 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
