A Perry County man is behind bars after robbing a local church not once but twice.
Davion Marquez Lang is said to have broken into the Temple Church of God in Christ in Richton on March 2 before temporarily getting away with it. He then tried to rob the church again on March 30, and that’s when he got caught.
According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, after the first call, deputies responded to the scene and discovered that an amplifier was missing and two electronic keyboards were left outside the building. During the investigation, they recovered a camouflage face mask and a used vape pen from the floor inside the church.
“Deputies believed the suspect had been surprised during the break-in and had left in a hurry, leaving the vape pen and face mask behind and also the two keyboards,” a statement from the PCSO said.
Following the second incident on March 30, in which the keyboard was taken this time around, deputies tabbed Lang as their main suspect. They were able to recover all the stolen items from the church and arrest Lang.
“If you steal from the citizens of Perry County, we will work relentlessly to find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” Sheriff Jacob Garner said.
Lang is charged with two counts of burglary of a church and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
