Entergy Mississippi is giving back to help its customers weather sweltering temperatures — and soaring energy bills.
Representatives gathered in Hinds County on Wednesday for the energy company’s annual Beat the Heat Day. Through Entergy’s The Power To Care program, $628,000 was contributed to help elderly and disabled customers pay their bills.
Free fans and energy efficiency kits were also handed out as part of the charity event.
“High temperatures in our service area are notorious for causing higher utility bills, which leaves many of our customers struggling to make ends meet,” Valarie Mabry, Entergy public affairs analyst, said. “It’s why we’re thankful for our community partners who help us get these important resources to homes in need.”

Entergy Mississippi customers are able to join in on the effort to help their vulnerable neighbors by donating to The Power to Care program. According to officials, all donations go directly to helping customers make payments.
Several community action organizations joined Entergy in the effort, including the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club of Attala, AJFC Community Action Agency of Claiborne, New Horizon Ministries of Hinds, and Boss Lady Workforce Development of Sunflower.
