Joseph Spring, an escaped inmate who has been on the run for nearly three weeks, has been captured.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said Spring, 31, was taken into custody in west Jackson on Saturday morning. Another male, Miguel Berry, 29, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and hindering prosecution.

Spring and fellow inmate Michael Lewis, 31, escaped from the Raymond Detention Center on May 29 by slipping through the air ducts before breaking through the facility’s perimeter fence. While Lewis was caught within 24 hours, Spring was nowhere to be found.

On June 2, officers thought they had Spring contained to a specific area in Gluckstadt after a stolen vehicle was confirmed near Gluckstadt Road and Industrial Road. The man believed to be Spring and another occupant then fled on foot with the latter being captured soon thereafter.

Following a night-long search in Gluckstadt, officials weren’t able to track down Spring. That is, until Saturday.

Overall, Spring’s escape led to at least six arrests of individuals aiding the escaped inmate: Angela Spring, 50, Nicole Brock, 38, Rick Patterson, 38, Michael Lynn Allen, 45, Kayce Knight, 36, and Berry.
